Sorry about that. I didn’t read close enough. <removing foot from mouth>
Farmboy, I hate to break this to you but you cannot legally play Sirius from your personal account at your business.
As someone who was in the music business (albeit briefly) I do know that you must pay royalties to the studios and artist. And I do know the recording industry takes this VERY seriously.
Sirius has a business account you can get for $30/month that covers royalties.

The OP was planning on the $30.00.

… just hard wire the 12v lighter plug to the battery
Remember to add an inline fuse holder and fuse of the appropriate size and this will work fine.
Buba,
I am working in Nashville, Tn (Music City) ! I have several music publishers as customers and ASCAP is just down the street; this is DEFINITIVELY NOT the place to pirate music! The music is actually going to be another “hook” for the cart and not solely for my enjoyment.
Dog,
How fast does that radio drain the battery?
I am thinking that a car radio is already setup for 12vdc so I probably need to stick with that. I just need to keep the power drain down below 5 watts, which should be doable. Thanks, as usual, for the help guys! I love this forum!
Hey Farmboy, how far apart is your vehicle from the cart. I’ve found that with mine I can just use a battery powered radio on my cart. The signal from the vehicle should “spill over” to your radio. I do have an older “visor” model of Sirius reciever and I can be about 60 to 70 feet and still catch a signal. DD
Why pay the commercial fee?… It’s for YOUR listening enjoyment….If you had a b&m…different story. I have Sirius and take the sportster out of the cradle in the truck and put in the cradle in the trailer to listen to Howard every day.. Don’t think the radio police are out cracking down on hd carts!
simple stuff… just hard wire the 12v lighter plug to the battery. Simple as can be. I run a car stereo & speakers with a 12v DC battery. The radio will drain the heck out of the battery though. or you could just stream slacker radio for free.
What would it run off of – the solar power set up or a battery. I would think in the battery’s case you would need an inverter. HarbourFreight sells four, at least, that have different Watts. But with those you would have to plug in the unit somehow. Is the XM unit for only cars or do they have an indoor unit set-up? I think they do. If that is the case you would just use that set up with your cart and plug it in.
Whomever you by the unit from should be able to tell you how to get power to it.
Good luck,
Philly
Does anybody have some ideas on adding xm to my cart? the monthly commercial fee is $30.00 (seems reasonable). I am looking at power for it. I already have an under utilized 5w solar panel and a lawn mower battery that powers my water system and I wanted to use some of this wasted power to add a radio. I like xm because it’s (relatively) commercial free and the stations are genre organized so I can pick the right music mix for my customer mix. Any ideas on how to engineer this setup?
