Capri Restaurant | Best Biscuits and Spuds in an Idaho Dive
Review by: Maggie Rosenberg & Trevor Hagstrom
Biscuits and Gravy
Although the beacon for this diner is spinning poultry, it’s biscuits and spuds that earn our respect. Yes, it’s a diner in the parking lot of the Budget Inn. But pretty much everything we’ve eaten exceeds our expectations. They make the claim to have served the best biscuits and gravy in the West, since 1953. Loaded biscuits include Capri’s flavor trinity (bacon, chives, cheddar). They make a meal all by themselves.
Cowboy Potatoes
Before all else, come to Capri for Cowboy Potatoes. The cooks stuff a potato pancake with blended “secret ingredients” that taste like bacon, chives, cheese, and a house blend of spices, among other sorcery. Crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside, this dish does to the russet potato what Italian grandmothers do to pasta. The house recommends enjoying it with sliced avocado and two eggs. Both enhance the creamy texture of the potato pancake.
Huge Cinnamon Roll
Even if your appetite has been vanquished, order a cinnamon roll. You must at least look at it, smell it, and take a bite. It’s soft, warm, and drenched with icing and butter. And yet it remains fairly light, undaunted by its fat and sugar ballast. Being more bready than sticky, it likes plenty of whipped butter.
A Taste of Idaho
Being in Idaho, we took the opportunity to enjoy an order of finger steaks. That’s the state’s beefy answer to chicken nuggets. We don’t rate them as high as the breakfast dishes, but they are indeed satisfying. They get even better when piled upon tater tots and served with a beige, BBQ-sauce fueled variation of fry sauce.
Biscuits and spuds, cinnamon rolls, and cowboy potatoes: Capri serves three meals a day with a sense of Idaho pride. It is a bustling greasy spoon, that’s for sure. High-energy servers split their time between refilling coffees and fetching fresh bottles of beer for rowdy weekenders getting an early start.

I’v been coming here for many years. prices were always fair. We went there last week and first thing I noticed is that they have truly doubled the prices. I do understand, but It did seem pretty extreme. that I ordered an order of biscuits and gravy, the gravy was too thick and had too much flour lacked any type pf sausage, bacon, or ham. So it was very bland, and not quite enough for the beautiful biscuits. It needed some flavor. The eggs, bacon and hash browns were ok. But the biscuits and gravy were so disappointing, it kinda ruined the rest. the coffee was much better than it used to be.The same sweet waitress that has been there forever. I’ll go back sometime, when I feel like spending $50.00 on two breakfasts.
