Apple Pie

Apple pie is all-American, but there is no one standard way to make it. It can be crumb-topped, lattice-topped, or deep-dish; and the apples of which it’s made can be firm slivers, tender hunks, or as soft as apple sauce. Some apple pies come with a caramel mantle; in New England, it is not unusual to eat apple pie accompanied by a hunk of cheddar cheese. And let’s not forget warm apple pie a la mode.
