Drive-In Reborn

Sno Cap opened in 1964 and has long served as a favorite community gathering place for fast-food in a sociable setting. In the spring of 2019, the Usry family purchased it. (They created the estimable Fat Man’s Cafe and The Southern Salad). The plan was to keep the best of the past while improving everything that could be improved.

Car hop service was re-introduced. Local suppliers were found for beef, buns, even root beer.

Burgers & Fries

A tender brioche bun sandwiches the 1/3-pound burger. The rugged patty doesn’t ooze juice but does deliver deep beef flavor. Order it with a panoply of free condiments and garnishes (lettuce, tomato, ketchup, etc.). Or choose from among such extra-cost premium add-ons as cheese, bacon, chili, slaw, grilled onions, pulled pork, and sauteed mushrooms. Sno Cap creates a unique burger each month. Some are inspired, such as the bacon, mac & cheese burger and November’s Thanksgiving burger.

Thin, crisp dark gold French fries deliver combine good potato flavor with a hail of salt & pepper seasoning.

BBQ & Slaw

Don’t ignore Sno Cap BBQ. Smoked across the river at Fat Man’s Cafe, the motley heap of pork combines buttery tenderness with a few chewy shreds of bark. Fat Man sauce, a tangy brew with subtle herbal twist, sings sweet harmony.

A long-standing Sno Cap recipe yields memorable cole slaw. Known as Sno Slaw, it adds cool, creamy, barely sweet refreshment to just about any dish. Put it on a hot dog along with cumin-energized chili and mustard and it becomes a classic Dixie Dog. Add cheddar and you have a Sno Cap Dog.

Frosty Mugs

Soda fountain drinks arrive in thick frosted mugs. Stout Red Hare root beer from Marietta, Georgia, welcomes a dollop of ice cream to become a lovely float.

In addition to dining in your car off a window tray, options include indoor counter seats and booths, outdoor picnic tables, and a drive-through lane.
