Insomnia Coffee: One of the best in Cannon Beach

Coffee in Cannon Beach is a competitive business. Sleepy Monk has a line out the door whatever time of day you go, and Sea Level is one of my favorite coffee houses of all time. However, Insomnia brings its own strengths to the table in this crowded field: it has arguably the best chai lattes in Cannon Beach. Its line out the door on a Wednesday morning is a testament to that fact. 

What should I order at Insomnia Coffee?

Insomnia’s chai latte is a must-order. Even for non-habitual chai drinkers, it is worth ordering for its robust flavor. For chai lovers in Cannon Beach, Insomnia is a required destination. The chai is spicy and sharp, with just enough sweetness to bring forward the taste of the tea itself. It can go down almost too quickly to enjoy; I had to slow myself down to savor the complex flavor of the drink. It was a challenge. 

Insomnia offers other specialty drinks if chai isn’t your cup of tea. Their Aztec mocha is rich and decadent, with a complex blend of chocolate, cinnamon, and coffee. Other unique offerings include white mocha, iced caramel latte, and matcha lattes. Their espresso drinks rise to the high bar of Cannon Beach coffee, but are not quite as well known as other coffee houses’ in the town. They also offer an assortment of baked goods and pastries. 

The inside of the café is spacious, with ample seating. The décor gives it a homey feel, with a warm glow coming from string lights that hang from the ceiling. After getting your morning coffee (or chai), you can walk down to the end of the street for a spectacular view of the ocean and beach. It’s a beautiful location in a beautiful town.
