I don’t know if graphic is good. Sounds like the front window of Schwartz’s Smoked Meat here in Montreal, with a lot of Briskets of smoked meat lying everywhere, and sausages hanging. Some people worry about that, but hanging critters are getting fewer on that street, as it continues to gentrify.

Found out about Porterhouses, by the way.

I stayed in New york New York in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago and the Steak place in the hotel featured dry aged steaks in the window. I thought that was interesting as they were getting sort of dry and crusty.

The Buckhorn Exchange steakhouse in Denver is interesting. It is historic and infamous for the decor (animal heads on the walls). It tributes a lot of Buffalo Bill memorabilia. Check out the website from some history. http://www.buckhorn.com/

"Black and blue" is also known as "Pittsburg"

As far as the oldest steak house goes, you might check out Keen’s in NYC

That is cute. Thanks. Please remember that I won’t be able to use everything, but am very grateful for all such contributions.

Not sure if this fits what you’re looking for, but here goes:
In Santee, CA, Pinnacle Peak doesn’t allow customers to wear ties.
The waitstaff come to the table ringing a cowbell, bearing scissors, draw everyone’s attention to the infraction, amputate the offending necktie, label it and hang it on the wall! This has been going on for about 30 years that I know of. They must have thousands.
Some of the ties were obviously created and worn just for this purpose.

Oh, yeah – they also serve one of the largest steaks I’ve encountered, "The Trail Boss". (close to 2 pounds) Mesquite-grilled within view of those hungrily awaiting their tables. In keeping with the old west theme, your waitress will be Annie Oakley, Lilly Langtry, etc…

    Hello, all,

I’m a writer for the Discovery Channel Canada documentary TV series, "What’s That About?" It’s a show where we visit various interesting locations and find out behind the scenes facts, and ideas about the simple principles of science used in these places.

Anyhow I’m writing an episode where WTA visits the typical steak house, and have been gathering trivia and interesting info, especially to use as "fun facts" — quick bits of trivia — on the show.

Looking for things which are especially amusing or funny, but not gross. It’s meant to be a light-hearted, positive, informative show.

I’d be interested if anyone knows about outlandish or amazing steak dishes and facts, menu items, something Japanese perhaps, or in the area of Surrealist steak dyed blue, maybe. Also one of a kind, pioneering, or famous restaurants.

Also, how does the "porterhouse" get its name?

Any strange ways of preparing steak, such as "black and blue," "chicken-fried," etc? Any great restaurant slang to do with steak? (I’ve checked the forum topic on this)

How about the largest steak served, or the largest or oldest steak house in the world?

Thanks in advance for anyone’s help, and sense of humour about this. References for the info would be appreciated, such as web addresses, or real restaurants where the practice takes place.
