Hey, you could advertise: The only place where it’s CHILI EVERY DAY in LAS VEGAS! <bahahaha!>
Actually I live in Pahrump. (If you could call it living!) There is NO work here in spite of 40k+ people. Bummer.
So, yeah, I’m looking for employment. (I’m hardworking and make the BEST chocolate chip cookies!) <or anything for that matter>
I’m surprised but not really about the turnout. It’s been really weird everywhere right now. Nobody hiring during the winter, the Nascar stuff turned the Valley here into something out of ‘Day of the Triffids’. Not quite the Summer season but winter is usually the travel season for the high desert. I admit I don’t think I’ll ever understand it. I heard about the new fashion outlet ‘mall’ that opened up there. Heck, 15 years ago they just opened up that one in Vegas near 15 and 160 that goes over the hump. At that point it was out in the middle of nowhere (although I maintain Pahrump holds the distinction of ‘middle of nowhere) and now is chocablock full of surrounding … everything.
I have seen quite a few adverts about positions in a few places in Primm. (why did they call it "Primm" anyway?) I don’t know how long the commute would be from here through Sandy Valley but I’d sooner do that than take 45 minutes to get to LV and another hour and a half getting 2 miles across town.
Your online menu looks great. Very well done.
I agree about the roadside signs…Like "Eat at Joe’s" or "Burma Shave" (ifn you remember those) I’m absolutely certain you can attract the just getting to Vegas crowd who need to stretch their legs. It’s a loooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng stretch of road (I know, I used to live in So. Cal and I’d done it often) from Calif before you come to anything worth getting out of your vehicle for. Especially the "EXIT NEXT!" signs. Pics of sodas, floats, ice cream…your burgers … yum. (oh, and my cookies…LOL)
Heck, offer free coffee! When it’s hot offer iced coffee!
It looks like something worth the drive once I get my radiator fixed!
You folks are GREAT!!! I am going to wrap all your suggestions into proposal for the host casinos, and – YES – we ARE talking about Primm. We are located inside the Fashion Outlet Mall there. And, guys (and gals?), I’ve been in this business for many a year – I truly believe we have the best QSR burger in it’s class. We’re not new in this field, with some 52 other venues, nine different concepts, in Las Vegas (the city proper) maintaining a heavy presence in the casino corridor. But this is our first start-up venue, which, after many years of planning has come to fruition out there in Primm.
Thing is while we wanted a kind of Off-Broadway opening we did not anticipate it being quite this slow out there. That’s why your ideas are just so good and helpful.
Now – if ANY of you happen to be out around Primm one day – PLEASE go try
"Vegas Burger" and let me know what you think.
Are you between Las Vegas and Stateline (Whisky Pete’s or as it is now called ‘Prim’)?? Or are you out the NE side heading towards Mesquite and the AZ line? The Highway between the CA line and Vegas is expanding rapidly, so that given decent access to on and off ramps you should be in a good position to expand there. On the NE side things aren’t moving that fast as you out towards the Indian Reservation.
I think the biggest draw would be appealing signage that can compete with the Casino signs at the exits along the 15. Wouldn’t hurt if you had an AM/PM Mini-gas Service close at hand!
===all you’d really have to do is stick a giant screen in the sand and you’ve got your drive thru – really I think folks would love it.===
I was thinking that it would be a idea to consider showing public domain films. Anything else would possibly involve royalties. There are plenty of teen hot-rod movies, and I think that you would have a fun time showing THE GIANT GILA MONSTER and ATTACK OF THE GIANT SPIDER. They are a great combination of monster in the desert and teens in fast cars films. THEM is fun, but you wouldn’t want ants that size invading your restaurant…
Dr of BBQ
If you find a good car club to run the event it will work 3 times a year, that is and still draw crowds. Do it more often and you’ll only get a handful of car enthusiast that want to hang around with like minded friends. But promotions are easy to come up with and you should have one every 3rd weekend. Look at the festivals that work well in other cities. Hold a Greatest Steak Cooking Contest Hold a BBQ contest. Have a grill manufacture get involved with both. Get a local grill distributor involved. But don t run these two in the same month, one should be in the spring the other in the fall. Do a tailgating event with a state sports favorite team. All of these need specific written rules, so they become competition and all prepared food goes to the judges, so only your food is available for consumption. Find a radio station that will cosponsor the events so you buy a small promotional schedule and they give you the rest free. Just some thoughts from a guy that s spent 20+ years in Radio & TV.
Wow!!! GREAT responses. Thank you all so much.
Yep, you guessed it guys – I am on the 15. The distance between me and the city is the same distance between me and anything BETWEEN me and the city. I absolutely LOVE the Bike Show idea and the MOVIE THEATER IDEA is a panic!!!
I will be meeting with the nearby casino marketing dept and will forward them both in addition to the classic car idea.
LOL… there is so much of nothing out there all you’d really have to do is stick a giant screen in the sand and you’ve got your drive thru – really I think folks would love it.
are you between vegas and pahrump? maybe you need to target folks in the area of their origin. if they wake up, and drive the 40 miles to work, catch them with ads, at their town. or visa-versa, coming home, with dinner in hand. hit them with ads at work…discount for certain casino workers, e.t.c.
point is, know your target, what they do and when, then you will know how to reach them.
first, welcome to roadfood. we love burgers!
but, 40 miles is a long way to go for one. you have to provide, some sourt of entertainment, that they cannot get in the city. hhmmm
anyway, my gues is that you need signs out on the highway, miles away, like pedros, south of the border… ever heard of it? he has signs ever mile or so, for like two hundred miles in each direction. oh yea, that would be south of north carolina border, on i95, for those who didnt know.
so signs, and car show is great, and you got to get some radio and t.v. chatter. and, you need something to draw them to that strip mall. a stronger base store, a music/bar skating/bowling/snake shooting, puttputtgolf, something…..hotel… ???
====The mall used to be stronger but since a new outlet mall has just opened in the city (40mi away) traffic here is down to a stand-still. =====
40 miles seems pretty far for a mall to be competition. I do understand your problem as an empty parking lot indicates that there may be something wrong inside. Your thoughts about a hosting a car meet is a good one. Take the idea farther and consider hosting a motorcycle meet too. It seems that there are more bikes on the road than hot rods.
Is there any motorcycle traffic driving past you? I ask this as there are usually groups of people riding together. The best example that I have is on RT 7, in CT., you will see MANY folks on bikes riding up this road. It isn’t that scenic of a drive, but they all drive to Marcus Dairy’s little restaurant. Folks in leather,(Middle-aged moms and dads actually) drinking milkshakes, coke and eating burgers.
How about renting a movie screen and projector and having a drive-in in that empty lot…
Sounds like a good question for the Resteraunt Professionals Forum—i am sure if you ask it up there and i bet lots of folks will be happy to help out.–oh— and car freaks LOVE to meet at burger joints!–i have been associated with several that meet up at the regularly out in California.–its kind of a tradition.[8D]
I’m new to this site and I can already tell I love it – but something I do not see and I have been actually seeking on the net is related to marketing ones restaurant or product. A topic on about what works for who and why, and what might work for others (meaning I need help, please).
I’ll give you an example. I just opened up a burger concept. It is in a very, very unique location – the middle of nowhere. A desert to be factual. But it is on a major hwy. I have GOT to drive sales – because we are actually in a mall off this hwy, forty miles outside of the closest city.
The mall used to be stronger but since a new outlet mall has just opened in the city (40mi away) traffic here is down to a stand-still.
One thing I just proposed to the outlet management is to host a classic car show every saturday or sunday afternoon in the huge now empty parking lot. My understanding is that people with these kinds of cars love to have somewhere to ride to and gather and show them off.
What about Marketing?
