Slug’s (Slug Claiborne) for great prime rib and steaks. It was on the top floor of the First Union Bank building. I’m sure that other places have grown up around the football stadium since I worked on the corner of Tryon and 4th.

For great hot dogs, try Green’s Lunch (about 2 blocks down from Tryon on 4th. It is an institution, but lost some of its charm when they built the "new" (in the ’80s) building. I went for lunch one day and sat between Rev. Billy Graham and a Trade Street hooker. It is that kind of place. I’ve seen NC’s governor, Senator Helms, various other celebrities and Charlotte bank presidents chowing down side by side with the street people and downtown office workers.

One of my all time favorite places in Charlotte is a short cab ride out Morehead Street–The Open Kitchen. Great pizza, lasagna, greek salad and all things italian.

Anderson’s, which bills itself as the "home of the world’s best pecan pie" is a few block down Trade street near Presbyterian hospital, and they put out some good food. Also, it would be a shame to miss a soul food meal at "The Coffee Cup", a Roadfood institution.

We’re spending a Friday night in Charlotte at the 4 Points Sheraton and would like a place to eat without getting back in the car, if possible. Anybody?
