If you are going to Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast, I recommend the Dory Cove and Mo’s . Other cities would have different recommendations.
In the Gorge, the Charburger in Cascade Locks has passable food but a first rate location looking directly out on the Columbia. I also like the Multnomah Falls Lodge for breakfast.
In Pendleton, I like the Rooster Cafe. The cowboy breakfast in Stillman Park is a great way to pick up local color and a great spot to eat breakfast on Parade Day.
There is not much RF in OR … I have been known to go out of my way to visit the Trillium Cafe in Hood River.
Lunch. Dinner. I always sit at the bar. The bartenders are great … try to chat with the lady who owns the place.
Also, Ian, welcome to RF.
In case no one has already suggested it, you MUST visit Nick’s Italian Deli in McMinneville…about an hour or so west of Portland. Located in a fairly mundane strip of shops on an otherwise forgetable main street resides the best restaurant I’ve ever experienced! Fixed price 5-course gourmet nothern Italian fare…complemented by the best list of Oregon wines imaginable. Really quite stupendous. Enjoy!
We are heading to Oregon in September. Will be flying into Portland, spend one day on the coast, one day in the Columbia River Gorge area and the rest of the week in Pendleton for Round-Up.
