Well that’s a new one on me. I recall my dad talking about a dish called “Come again in the morning”(english translation) that grandma would make sometimes. Now he called it by its german name  the spelling of which i don’t know. But he said it was  made from leftovers from the night before.

I was in Germany last year and a hotel breakfast is very complete without bacon! I don’t think I have ever been to a hotel which does not serve bacon on the breakfast table.

Well this is a new one on me. My dad talked about griebenschmalzt. It was bacon grease that grandma would add onions(chopped up) .Think you sauteed the onions in the fat.Anyways.You  can spread the stuff like butter on bread, and it it like a snack.

    This is surprising.

1985-1989 I was with the USAF stationed in Germany, and traveled all over the country – I figured it was my only chance to play Eurotourist with the US Gov’t paying for the plane tickets!

The only time we were ever offered bacon was in places close to US military bases.

I never saw a German citizen eat a bite of it.
