Hey Buddy, what’s the restaurant on the north side of Oakton west of your street that has something like “smoked meats” either on the awning or above the front window? Or at least that’s what I think I saw…at this point hallucinations can’t be ruled out.
Not sure about any signs reading, “Smoked Meats,” but there is a new http://www.balkanika-restaurant.com Balkan restaurant, in that approximate location, that opened up last winter. A big building with a faux stone exterior, looked a little like a castle?
On another note, for anyone who doesn’t already know, here’s Burt’s address for Sunday:
8541 N. Ferris
Morton Grove, IL 60053
Please try to arrive between 11-11:15am. Doors officially open at 11:15, Salad, Garlic Bread and Drinks served upon arrival, first round of Pizzas on the table at noon. Sharp.
See you there,

I was thinking it would be a fun challenge to take a shot of whiskey for every food item that the CTD orders while we are on the crawl. How many cases of liquor will be needed per person to complete this challenge?
If we did that it would really be a CRAWL!
I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to the visit. I have had the opportunity to eat one of those strange frankfurters, so I’ll likely pass on the opportunity to try again. However, with the exception of anything with mushrooms (to which I am allergic) I can’t wait to enjoy the richness of Chicago’s other offerings.
Keep in mind though, once you’ve had the Pizza at Burt’s, you’ll be done eating for several hours. Even though his crust is much lighter and airier than the typical Chicago Pan Pizza, it’s still a commitment.
Speak for yourself on this one oh saucemiester! Poochies pairs delightfully with Burt’s! Just ask Mona’s Ex!

I'm having trouble filling in the Doodle poll on the iPad, but we would be available most dates except these:
With Burt and Mona, I’m all in…now just gotta pick my hotel!
An electric chain saw? How wimpy is that? Get yourself a Stihl Magnum and get back to me.
Spreadsheet went out a few minutes ago…check spam folders. If you would like a copy, PM me your email address.
Weather – 60 on Thursday and then 70’s the other 3 days. Have a jacket for Friday night as we may dine outdoors!
We are contemplating bringing a special treat for Dale.
I was hoping you’d bring me a plate of this
You are correct on all counts. We will probably arrive between 4:30-5pm and will stay until they start giving us dirty looks, which I’m guessing will be around closing time; 7pm.
I’ve adjusted the Doodle Poll accordingly. Thanks.
My dates listed were only the Friday date to denote the weekend. I will be in Cleveland all weekend for the Advanced RV Fest & Open House May 1-3. By that time I will hopefully have a new Advanced RV motorhome to show off. So this event we will not beg off.
That will be our third camper van this decade and the new one will enable us to be out on the road even more. We have been averaging more than 100 days per year and 20,000 miles of which 90%+ are on the “blue highways”.
What a great weekend!
Jen and I have had a wonderful time. We ate LOTS of great food and met some truly wonderful people. We can't thank Mike S enough for his generosity in offering to drive us around the city on this fantastic tour. We shared meals and lots of laughs over the last couple of days. Mike and the Canadians will be at another event as soon as we can.
Won't speak for Jen as she will be signing up at Roadfood under her own user name very soon, but some personal highlights for me were;
U Gazdy, Calumet Fisheries, Bang Bang Pies, Poochies and Freddy's.
Many thanks to Gregg and Jeff for bringing this event together. Much appreciated. You did a great job. Sorry we won't be at Burt's tomorrow, but that just gives us another reason to get back here for a visit some day.
Thanks folks. Will look at work schedules and flights and may just be able to join in.
