The green peanuts used for boiling are a summer crop.

Fresh sweet corn, all kinds of melons, papaya stuffed with shrimp salad, and all the recipe ideas I’ve gotten from reading these threads over the winter! [:D]

Fresh corn is at the top of my list, followed by a sweet watermelon and tomatoes from the local farmer’s market. I can’t hardly wait. I am definitely a warm weather person and even though we don’t have harsh winters here cold is to clod for me.

Today is very strange when I left for work this morning it was 57 degrees and at lunch is was 45 and going down to freezing tonight with possible light snow flurries.

Summer to us is our fresh garden produce. We grow 4 kinds of Tomatoes…this summer adding the superb Ramapo..first time seeds available in decades> Check this out on the internet!!!! We make sauce with our Romas and love a fresh Tomato and lettuce on toast made with our own stuff. Also love frying up our Italian peppers…and making lots of things with our Zuchini. Of course, summer is also fresh lemonade…and our grill gets a lot of use too.

What foods do you look forward to in the summer?
    Pam

My wife and I were discussing this very thing tonight with a friend! We are sick of winter- we’re getting yet another snowstorm as we speak- up to 6" of snow is expected, and Wednesday’s high is only 19F, with a low of 14F. I long for warmer weather so I can fire up the grill/ smoker. I’m looking forward to burgers, hot dogs, salmon, pulled pork, spare ribs, steaks, pork chops, corn on the cob, etc, on the grill!

    Here’s to then!

Ah – summer – I was just thinking the other day about fresh tomatoes – my personal favorite – and corn – they must be on top of the list – but we also get pretty excited about the first new potatoes paired with fresh green beans and then the little yellow squashes either sauteed or grilled.

And let’s not forget the arrival of purple hull peas – not to be confused with black eyed peas – real purple hull peas cannot be reckoned with.

Top that burger with a big slice of Vidalia onion. And let’s have fresh peach cobbler for dessert.
