One of these is going up just down the road from us in Frisco, TX so I checked their http://pollotropical.com website.
Their http://pollotropical.com/menus menu has me drooling (http://pollotropical.com/menu-group/signature-sauces check out their sauces!); can’t wait until they open.
Will this make my fast food fancies come true or just be another “meh‘ like In-N-Out was when they hit this market four years ago?
Their stock is doing very well too!
We tried the one that is now open in Addison (North Dallas). The moist, succulent roast pork and accompanying sauces ‘rocked my fast food world’, even the accompanying mashed potatoes & gravy were excellent; Mrs. Metro really enjoyed her chicken Cesar wrap. And it was less than ten bucks (drinking water).
The nicest comment about the place came from the lady who cleared our table; she said that she has worked there for four months and still eats there prior to returning home after her shift is over.
They had a few in New Jersey for a while. I went to the one on Route 46 in Little Ferry (which had replaced a great foot long hot dog place). The chicken was decent, and the sauces ranged from boring to excellent. At the time, they also had a passable Ropa Vieja platter (it looks like they’ve dropped it). Their Caribbean Chicken Soup was very nice, close to something that one would make at home if one had the time.
The one I went to was always busy, but they closed down all their restaurants here. My guess was that the others weren’t performing well, so they closed all of them due to supply line expenses.
One opened near us, but we haven’t tried it yet. When I checked their website, it has the location all wrong which doesn’t scream quality control.
It’s a chain out of Miami. Some of the sauces are pretty good, but I got bored with it fairly quickly. Here’s my take on the Kennesaw GA store:
Jim, The Sherman location is already closed. Never got to see it in business. I thought for sure it would give the fried chicken places here a run for their money but I guess the folks here like their chicken fried. Don’t think they ever had a chance here. Tough crowd!
Haven’t been able to come up to McKinney or I’d celebrate with a frozen custard.
[p]Very enjoyable. I’ve given some thought to staying at the Wigwam in AZ.[/p]
