Just confirmed: the dryer.
Julie just commented the other day that if you ask any 45 year old woman whether she’d rather have her wedding dress or the money (with interest) she spent on it, the vast majority would take the money. I know I’m biased, but yeah, that’s a near total waste.
You’re biased?
Shocking, I know. Probably no more so than yourself. 🙂
It seems to me that the success of the marriage is in inverse proportion to the amount of money spent on the wedding. My whoop-te-do one ended sadly for everyone. I am still totally happy with the man I married almost 25 years ago in the Chancery Court judge’s office.
I totally get the kitchen gadget thing. Although I rarely spend my own money on them, my family gets me absolutely everything under the sun as gifts. Some of which are actually useful, most of which are not. I don’t keep the crap, though…it goes in the garage sale pile. I figure I’ll make someone’s day when they can pick up something that originally must have cost around $40-$50 for $5-$10…and then THEY can find out they wasted their money on it! [:D]
I think far too much money is waster on Chia Pets…The Clapper runs a close second![:)]

Nancy—-I would like to know how many big buck wedding dresses are stored in attics, getting yellow with age just waiting to be handed down to a girl who doesn’t want that “Old Rag”—she wants her own.
Engine Capt—are you asking us if the stupid bread making machine is over the washer or dryer. Now how the heck do you suppose we would know. That is a dumb question. Go stand in the corner.
Greymo—wow, you sure hit that one out of the park. What a waste. kids can’t be kids anymore because mother’s would have to work at being mothers. I was at a little league game recently where every kid was driven to the game by a “Mom” in an SUV, who then sat with a bunch of other “Moms” and talked all through the game. They never watched an inning. They didn’t even know the score.
ces 194B —— anything I used 3-4 times a year I would never be able to find when I needed it. I am glad you use your knife—proves
sumething, but I will have to think a while to fikker out what.
When is a gadget not a gadget? That is the question. If you use it a lot like our friend the Capt does his juicer, or like Chef Boyardee does his stuff then the gadget moves up to a position of importance. Amazing deduction.
Lovely wedding story Old Bailey——-go for another 24.
Food be you—$995—-what are they nuts? That is crazy. But just walk around the department stores and Bed, bath and beyond and see the stock they carry. A lot of money tied up there. Plus all the stuff sold on TV and the internet. Big bucks indeed.
I try to buy stuff for my kitchen that I can use for other purposes. I will NOT buy a bread maker, a juicer…
I have citrus trees. My $25 citrus juicer comes in very handy.
I would certainly have to agree about kitchen gadgets. I can’t even begin to remember all the things that have come and gone in the last 20-30 years. I would disagree about the electric knife, I’ve had the same one for probably 25 years and though I only use it 3-4 times a year it come super handy for slicing corned beef or pork tenderloin very thin. Probably paid $20 for it so I’ve gotten my moneys worth.
I tried to research the Size of the Kitchen Gadget Industry. There is a published report—It costs $995.00
I can buy a lot of gadgets for $995.00!!!!!!!!!!!
My pet peeve for wasting money is children’s birthday parties. Most parents in our area go to these public places and spend 15.00 per kid for two hours of playing at something, hurrying to eat some cake and a beverage and then out of there………………..too structured! Also, the minimun gift seems to be $25.00 gift……………what a waste. Half the gifts are junk and tossed aside within a day or two. I am old so that I can remember when a book or a coloring book and crayons was a wonderful gift.
We were in a private home and wa ched the guest of honor open gifts and played games like “Pin the tail on the Donkey and “Musical Chairs…………….what fun!
Bread machine… my sister bought one and didn’t use it. Gave it to me and I don’t use it. So there it sits for the past 6 years in the storage over the washer.
Or is it the dryer?

Stuff we waste too much money on—–according to a survey published by AOL today.
Two, or three should be interesting to Roadfood People.
#1 is clothes——–we buy when things are on sale, or when we see something
that we “just have to have” even though we don’t need the stuff. We would save a ton if we
just bought what we needed.
I have a whole bunch of suits worn out from being moved, not from wear.—I have not worn one in YEARS. I am a confirmed Sport Jacket and chinos guy—-also I must have 100 ties. Wore one last August for a few hours.
But #2 in the whole USA is Kitchen Gadgets—-Ah Ha !!!!! Isn’t that the truth,
how many things that we have in drawers (that can’t open any more) that we never use.
The 2 items they cite—–the Bread Baking Machine. Used once in a while, maybe. Not worth the money or space and #2 The Electric Carving Knife. Since I never have had either I feel great.
Another one at #8 or so was bottled water——a few years ago you could not go anywhere without seeing some one sipping away. They looked dumb—maybe they caught on because you don’t see it as much any more.
________And believe it or not—–weddings.
Spending 50 grand or more for a wedding looks like a waste of money after a few years. Give me the 50Gs now that I need it.
Just a little something to chew on on a hot Thursday in Florida.
