    Dutch,

As stated above, DEFINITELY take The FL Turnpike up to Orlando. Don’t even THINK about taking I-95 at any part.

As for roadfood along the way, there are a few places I would seriously consider. Of course, it will all depend on what time of the day you are traveling. In all, the trip from Miami to Orlando should take you 4.5 – 5 hours but this does not include the following stops:

For the best BBQ in Florida (IMHO), you will need to drive about 10 minutes off the FL T.P. In West Palm Beach, exit at Okeechobee Blvd. (Exit #99). Go East to Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. (just after Military Trail). Make a left on PB Lakes Blvd and after drive about 5 miles or so, you will come to Austrailian Ave. Just after Austrailian Ave, you will see TOM’s PLACE. This place is my favorite BBQ anywhere in the south and definitely a place that should be experienced if you are in the area.

For a REALLY fantastic burger and some local flavor filled with construction workers and fishing boat captans, you will need to get off the FL T.P. at PGA Blvd (exit #109)and drive eastbound for 15-20 minutes. Just take PGA Blvd east to Hwy US1, which will be just west of the intracoastal waterway. Make a Right (heading South) on US1 and drive approx 5 miles. Right after you cross the Northlake Blvd intersection, you will see a place on your left called The Brass Ring. The building is a one story bldg that is yellow in color. Definitely a best burgers around.

If you are interested in a GREAT sub, you will need to get off the T.P. at the Jupiter exit (exit #116) and drive for about 10 minutes. Just go east on Indiantown Rd. after around 5 intersections, you will make a left on Center Street. MAKE SURE you DO NOT turn on Central Ave, which is 2 lights before Center Street. Make a left on Center Street and go until you see the RR tracks. Just before the RR Tracks, you will see a small building on your left with neon signs in the window reading THE CONNECTION. This place has the best sub sandwiches around which will have to take with you because there is nowhere to eat at this place. Take Out only!

The last place I would suggest is a little further north in St. Cloud, FL (just south of Kissimmee). This place is called The Catfish Place and it is simply fantastic! Get off the T.P. at the Kissimmee Exit (exit #244, I think?). I know it is Hwy 192/441. Follow this road eastbound (to the right) for about 5 miles. You will see The Catfish Place on the left. Definitely worth a stop for the sweet tea alone!

Good luck and let me know if you need any more suggestions along the way or if you plan to take another route.

    on the way- none
If you want – get off TPK- Hollywoog Blvd and take 441 n TO TAFT St.- GO WEST to Sonny’s for decent steak subs, pepeprs and Eggs, tuna etc- basic but good

Also nearby- Mimis ravioli- is a great italian market- with homemade mozzarella, breads and cannoli’s- on Johnson St just east of 441

Eat Cuban in Miami- Latin American chain -good cubans, breakfast- cafe con leche, cuban toast -cheap eats too

Your best bet is the Florida Turnpike, don’t even consider I-95 for that trip. Of course that means Turnpike food unless you want to wander off the beaten path. In Orlando try this place http://orlando.citysearch.com/profile/2393696.

I will be flying into Miami and staying for a couple of days before driving to Orlando for a business conference. Does anyone have any recommendations on places in either or those two cities? How about a preferred driving route for some out of the way can’t miss spots in between? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
