2 for 1 deal on Green Acres DVDs 2&3 from DeepDiscount.com (less than $20 & no
postage either!) [:D]
And two small Ebay purchases: on a 1997 Jeopardy! calendar (why, because I’m
trying to get a complete run from 1994-2008(and 2009 is already being mentioned
by Amazon)) & a travel version of the game that only was at Kohl’s, which we
didn’t get in our area until this past October.
Other than that, ready to cook on Tuesday!

I buy stuff off the ‘net all year around. I too research everything from home appliances to cars to… I actually bought PP’s Christmas present while at Disney this week.

Its hard enough getting to the supermarket.
Gift buying is not something we do a lot of…considering the size and scope of the family ties. Jan shops for a few things now and then. She mentioned a couple of books she wanted to find a couple of weeks ago, so I ordered them from Amazon and they arrived safely 2 days later (free shipping for regular service). We buy books for the younger grandkids too (the McDuff Doggie stories Series), Again either Amazon or B & N . We have never had a problem with either company.
I have used Walmarts Photo Dept. for Photo printing for years. The ability to email the photos to the ‘system’ and then pick the prints up an hour later is very convenient. I don’t like to print photos here at home because of the expense.I do it now and then, but sending them out for printing, and then pick them up when we go out for other stuff is really easy!
I have also done two computer replacements using Dell’s website and discount coupons to get a new desktop computer. While two times in 10 years is not a big deal, both experiences have been quite satisfactory for me. I also bought my laptop thru them using the same system.
I have had 488 transactions on Ebay so far. Most are me buying stuff, but I do sell now and then also. I feel that the 100 percent positive feedback rating I have means that both my record and the people I have dealt with were honest dealers.[8D]
I ordered all the gifts I’m giving my wife and son on the internet; I am just too busy this year to shop much.
However, the stocking stuffers were mostly bought in person over the last week or two.
I ordered some stuff off the internet, like a digital camera for my granddaughter, eyeclops thingy for my grandson, and an I Love Lucy kitchen clock and I Love Lucy wallet for my daughter-in-law, who really, really, LOVES Lucy stuff. Aside from that, I have been going to the malls with my daughter every Saturday for the past three weeks. I tend to go a little overboard at Christmas.[:I]
I’ve started a little more deliberate shopping at local stores. We’re just plain buying less. And I’ve been trying to support smaller ‘net merchants as well. Here are a couple that I’ve started browsing more than the LL Bean/Lands End folks: http://www.duluthtrading.com (that should be popular around here, I bought a sweatshirt from them I would wear every day if I could) and http://www.titlenine.com Of course now I’m never going to get the Life is Good shirts I want. 🙂
I’m pretty much on par with Davydd. I did about 1/2 my gifts online – some SU Basketball tix, some tix to a broadway tour, some college sports clothing for my bros., all the toys for my nieces, nephews and godchildren I got on Amazon and some gallery wrapped photos from updone.com. All other gifts were researched online before I headed out to the stores. I didn’t do any blind walking around the mall or box stores, except for finding interesting items for my wife’s stocking -like earings and such.

Davy: I do the same thing. I never buy any major purchase without thoroughly reviewing all points of opinions.

I’ve ordered quite a bit this year from LL Bean and Land’s End. Last week I ordered on line for a pick up at my local store. That worked well but I had to return it the next day because it was not compatible with my system. The return went smooth and by the time I got home, 10 minutes later, I had a email from them tracking the return.
I did almost all of my shopping online. While I am no fan of dealing with the big box retailers, either, one way to avoid (many of) the pitfalls is to place your order online for pickup. I did that with my camera, and it worked out like a charm. I had no trouble finding a knowledgeable salesperson because they KNEW I was spending money.
So far, this year, I have purchased from Amazon, Circuit City, Voodoo Doughnuts, and the Cookie Factory in NY – all online, and, so far, everything went smoothly.
I also shipped a few boxes of items that I sold on ebay. I know some of the items purchased are being used as holiday items – so, I participated in the purchasing and the selling online. Going to stores just means having to interact with – gasp – people.
