One day, I’m going to get the folks at The Royal Cafe here in Athens to keep some old coffee for me with the burner off. I’ll put it in a glass and put some milk in it and see what transpires. It’s nigh onto impossible to find decent iced coffee in Georgia; I was turned onto it initially by a friend from Rhode Island, lo those many years ago.
On a hundred-degree day, iced anything sure beats hot anything else.

I make a batch of double strength coffee (either reg or, pardon me, decaf for late afternoon) several times a week and keep the plain coffee in pitchers in the fridge. I also keep some simple syrup around for my son who likes his coffee sweet because we all know sugar doesn’t dissolve in cold beverages! Using regular strength coffee doesn’t work and if you’re really Martha-level obsessed you can make coffee ice cubes from left over coffee so your beverage doesn’t get watered down.
I like my iced coffee with condensed milk. Get it at a variety of Vietnamese places here in Portland.
OH YUMMM i love iced coffees too. My first experience with it was YEARS ago in Boston (JAmacia Plain) at dunkin’ donuts. We’d get these HUGE sweet very icy
(((((but not watered down ))))iced coffees in the hot hot summer.
Now I’m ADDICTED ( i’m embarrased to admit it) to Starbuckes " Shaken iced coffee, venti, with room, one half "squirt" of "classic" " Gawd i even "know how to order it"…
Do you remember that coffee/latte etc scene in the movie LA STORY ??? FUNNY![:p][:p]
I’m not usually a coffee drinker, but I get cravings for the iced coffee we had in Malaysia. Similar to "cafe sua da", it’s served over ice with sweetened condsend milk–maybe not quite as strong, although it has a kick to it. Boy, kopi ice first thing in the morning sure gets you on your feet![:0]
Yes, when I really want my a.m. wake up, I order double espresso over ice, add my own milk + sugar.
Condensed milk sound good, too.

Here in Vermont, the local coffee shops make awesome iced coffee.
Most offer a squeeze bottle of Maple Syrup to add. YUMMMY !!!
The Vietnamese community here in San Jose has taught me to love this ice coffee drink "cafe sua da" (Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk,)
one large table spoon of sweet condensed milk
a double shot of espresso (stir the two together)
and pour over a glass of ice
I love iced coffee as well, one of my favorite drinks, and I make my own like the frappucinos you buy, but nothing beats a good iced tea from a Thai or Malaysian restaurant.
I love iced coffee, it’s good even in winter.
It’s been so hot here in Colorado (double digits for five days now) that some guys on the radio were kidding about going to McDonald’s and buying a coffee to spill in their laps to help cool them off.
Made ME laugh, anyway. Simple things for simple minds.
I agree–I love iced coffee but you really do have to make it and let it cool down—pouring hot coffee over ice just gives you cold brown water!!! I have a freind that syas there was once a line in Claifornia that if you were above it there was ice tea if below–iced coffee–i think she said that it was just a bit north of Bakersfile and this was in the 50"s when she grew up—lately though i never see iced coffee in Claifornia at all and i dont think i have seen it here in Oklahoma either—i knoiw that in New ERNgland when i grew up it was everywhere.
It only takes one scalding cup of coffee in your lap when driving to teach you to cool it down some. I always had a large WaWa coffee in the ambulance (a freebie perk)and a few ice cubes from the drink dispenser made its engine cover perch a bit less intimadating, on some of the slower more tedious nights I would add a pack of hot choc(the ONLY time I’d add creamer)for the extra caffiene boost, this was way before the frappemochachino craze. I still prefer my coffee warm as opposed to HOT, adding an ice cube or 2 to my morning libation, for those hot florida days I make the coffee a bit stronger and store it in the fridge, poured over a glass of ice it’s a refreshing pick-me-upper
1. My summer favorite is (real) Iced Coffee (not all that frapuccino froufrou, real iced coffee). And I have a few comments:
a. The best: Lamberville, NJ on the Delaware River. They make takeout iced coffee with iced cubes made form iced coffee! Such a simple idea, but keeps from getting all watered down.
b. The worst: anyplace that takes hot coffee and pours it over ice. Yuck!! All it becomes is lukewarm watered down coffee
c. The wierdest: I ordered iced coffee in Germany and they brought me a huge ice cream soda with big cookies on the rim (seems Eis/Ice in Germany means ice cream, not iced)
d. most noticeable: Living in NYC, I noticed the summer accountrement is an iced coffee in hand on your way to work. You can get one where, of varying qualities, including at coffee street vans and seems everyone is carrying. Sort of summer caffeine starters.Personally, I am sad in late October when its harder to get IC.
2. I think we need a new category for beverages, alcoholic and non. How can we start one?
