Good link and subject, Lone Star. I wish we could really find out the origin of the hamburger. It is just about the perfect food; a cheeseburger with all the veggies represents all 4 food groups. (To Hades with the "Food Pyramid" !!! [:D])
Unfortunately, I believe all we’re left with is lore.
This is one of the few times that I will publicly state that I don’t agree with the "Texas version" of the argument. [:)]
So how do we resolve the issue as to whose "burger" was actually first? If it can be verified then the Wisconsin version has to be first – but how does one do that? Lassen’s grandson says he has it verified in documents ( which he wouldn’t produce on the "History on a Bun" show) but it would be nice to really pinpoint the first one. This may be as tough as finding the best burger.
Great article that begins with a quote by Charles Kuralt.
Check out the link to the book "I’ll Have What They’re Having" am considering ordering. Anyone read it?
