Our family often travels to Winchester, Virginia to shop at a couple of our favorite places. What we lacked until today was a great place to eat near Winchester. We have found it. It is in Middletown, VA and it is an authentic Irish Restaurant and Pub called "The Irish Isle." How authentic? It is owned by three Irish citizens who are determined to bring their country’s offerings to a little town in America. They have created a haven that offers what is the best Reuben Sandwich I have ever tasted. They prepare the corned beef daily. It has no condiment except mustard and is paired with great rye bread and swiss cheese and it is fantastic. In fact, I heard another customer across the way say that it is the best Reuben she had ever tasted! Their fries (something I often skip in restaurants these days) are thick and delicious. They offer breakfast for much of the day, and include black and white pudding with their real Irish breakfast. Do I like that sort of thing? No! But it shows just how determined they are to be true to their country’s cuisine. There are lots of other sandwiches, Shepherd’s Pie, Fish and Chips which are highly recommended by the waitress (one can only eat so much in one visit but that’s what I am ordering next time), Chicken Pot Pie and more. For those of you who wish to find other things to do around Middletown, The Cedar Creek Battlefield and the Route 11 Potato Chip Factory are on the same road within minutes. Its Route 11 (7843 Main St.) in Middletown, phone 540-868-9877.
