Here are three recipes for versions of Torta della Nonna:
Not to get off track, but did she get that from the movie of the same name, or is there a cookbook with that name also?
The movie was excellent!
Peanuts or cashews have always been a great snack to kill a hunger for me.
But I’ve discovered I love pine nuts in a dessert dish my wife makes
called Torta della Nonna. It’s like a custard pie with pine nuts (that’s
my description, probably not what it really is considered.) It is a joy
to my sweet hunger. She found the receipe in "Under the Tuscan Sun."
I made three foods with pine nuts this week – stuffed kibbe, caponata, and a ground lamb, rice and zucchini dish. I hate to think how much I would weigh if we didn’t eat them so often.[V]
Only in reverse. [;)]
old age, i suppose. meat and poultry seems so heavy lately.
i’m feeling much better not eating it
and since my husband is on atkins, it’s no problem..
we’re the jack sprat couple[:D]
Xannie, how can you do that? You have my admiration. If I don’t have my daily requirement of tasty animals, I go a little nuts.
i’ve been eating nothing but vegetables and grains for the past 2 weeks..
have peanut butter once a day and so far, it seems to be working.
BhamBabe, your pawpaw may have been onto something. It’s said that a spoonful of peanut butter a day may help diabetics control their sugar levels.
Andrea: Going low carb will definately reduce your weight, BP and cholestrol. I know that for a fact as I did that seriously several years ago. I lost about 50 pounds and have been able to keep it off by semi doing it since then. I went from 245 to a stable of 185 and I keep it that way.
BP is stable, cholestrol is better and I am happier with the weight.
Low carb works.

Since I went low-carb, almonds became a big part of my diet and yah I noticed a difference so for me that sounds like good advice.
But, I exercised a lot as well. For me, just cutting sugar out of my diet made a big difference. I’m sure all the fiber in the nuts helped as well.
I have a condition that caused me to lose several pints of blood a few weeks ago and I can no longer eat seeds, nuts or other things that would further aggrevate my condition. I always enjoyed nuts with my evening libation but no more.

My papaw swore that a handful of peanuts a day helped with his sugar. Maybe he knew something I don’t?
We eat salads with many of our dinners and I always top them with toasted slivered almonds. They sure don’t curb our appetites for salads since toasted almonds add such flavor and crunch, it makes a salad irresistable. (My salads almost always contain red leaf lettuce, chopped green or red pepper, sliced black olives, sliced water chestnuts or sliced radishes, chopped up beets, and almonds. [:p] )
Yes, it seems that nuts are the new "health food". I’ve been reading more and more about their benefits for a better life.
