We use the skinny prewrapped drinking straws from Sam’s club as stir sticks. It is cheaper than any of the prewraped stir sticks that I have priced online (remember to adds shipping to those prices!… that’s what kills the internet prices). No Restaurant Depots in this state! We were selling prewrapped Spunkmeyer muffins, danishes and “home made” brownies (and I got tired of baking up a batch of brownies and wrapping them up… line pan with parchment paper if you do decide to go that route). We’ve dropped those for various reasons. I keep getting the auction folks asking for “sweets” so I may talk to David about picking up a box of something. Not sure what. BTW, you would be surprised to discover a lot of those “bakery – baked” items are frozen or just warmed up in the oven. Especially the coffee houses. If you can figure out a way to make fresh baked cookies on the cart (from frozen dough) you could make some good $$. For some reason people go nuts over a still-warm, fresh baked cookie.
I sell all those pre wrapper danish and muffins. These items are just convenience foods, nothing to brag about. I only sell these items in our vending operation. If you have a spot to put a cart between two office buildings then this may work. If your selling pre wrapped items on the street down town then I don’t think it will work. The down town area will have bakeries and other coffee houses that will offer fresh baked items……………………BillyB
what about this war…. tell us about the war Curbie.
I would check local Hd Regs. But here if you can do Dogs- Coffee is easy. The only thing they require is Individual wrapped stirrers.
Maybe you don’t see them around is the need for a good Coffee. Customer Base.
Have seen Coffee Kiosk inside office buildings that do well.
We had a Over the Top Coffee shop try here 1 Blk from the court house, flopped in 3 mos.
Everybodies market is different.
Have to add, Have you ever watched Matlock.
All he does is crave a Hot dog outside the courthouse. Lol
If all I was doing was conducting business at a lunch break, need food not Coffee.
We had a Hot Dog Cart war at the Columbia Courthouse. last year.
Back to Coffee. Try and see. Only you know what works.
Check with your local HD. There might be a reason that you don’t see any carts doing that type of Niche.

Has anyone ever set up their cart for just coffee and pastries? I was looking around the other day in downtown Tulsa, there are no carts down there. One hot dog cart around 11. Tons of traffic going in and out of City Hall. I wondered how good a coffee pastry cart would work? 6am to 10am. Different coffees, hot chocolate. Cinnamon rolls or Otis Spunkmeyer muffins. Seems like it might do just as good as a dog cart. I understand it would need to be set up completely different though. My girlfriend now has her Management Food Handlers permit. She was told that this one is good anywhere in the US. I dont know if that is true or not. Either way her work paid for it. LOL Anyway, just looking for opinions.
