Chicago mini-trip
Bushie, agree. I may be back there this spring for a business trip and keeping track of these recommendations!
Thanks Chicagostyle! Went to a Shaw’s in Atlanta last year and the food was pretty good.

TJ, thanks for the trip report! Chicago is one of my favorite cities, and I really enjoyed your triplog. [:)]
..and there you go.
I had a great meal at Shaw’s about 15 years ago, hope its still good.
I have no idea what/where Shaw’s is, much less whether they are still open or not 🙂
I assume this is a Chicago place you are asking about, so maybe one of the Chicago-based members can answer your question.
What about Shaw’s? are they still open and as good as i remember????
Chicago dogs ARE much better than those here in Cincinnati, per se.
The treat in Cincinnati, alluded to above, is the cheese coney: a steamed dog on a fresh bun topped with chili and grated cheddar, onions and mustard optional. Cincinnatians often lunch on one of these paired with a 3 way (spaghetti topped with the same chili and cheese)
The difference is here that they’re both good in their own city — I wouldn’t expect to find a good coney in Chicago nor would I expect to find a good stand-alone dog here in Cincinnati.
Oh, and thanks Bushie 🙂
Great triplog, TJ! Thanks!! [:)]
The Chicago dog is the best. I like the five way.

For Cincinatti, you gotta try Chile dogs. They used to sell different "ways". You can get 1 way, 2 way, 3 way, 4 way and 5 way there. A bun, hot dog, chile, raw onions, tons of Cheddar Cheese, all piled on. It’s been a while so I don’t remember the "way" deal but they were great when I was there on trips. Reading Road has a lot of places that serve them from what I remember.
Maybe someone else can elaborate on the subject but these were "unique" to this city and were great!
Don
Thanks, it was my first opportunity…I don’t travel like you sales guys…..

Well, uh, I generally don’t drink alcohol. Nothing against it, per se, just never acquired a taste for it, which my wife says is a good thing 🙂So, the only beer I had on the trip was a small sampling of Guinness, which was suprisingly good….
So, Rhodes, when are we gonna see rhodesfood.com open up? *grin* *couldn’t resist the pun*
I actually posted that before reading through the whole thread and realizing your tastes, my apologies. Glad you enjoyed the Berghoff though! Rhodesfood.com opens up about 6 pm every day at my place [;)]

TJ,
Don’t forget the Grand-daddy of them all…The Berghoff.
Yes, oh yes! Don’t forget to have a beer (or two).
