I second Tammy and Johnny’s. We always stop there between NY and Virginia Beach. The pulled pork sanwiches are awesome; nice portion of juicy pulled pork. I agree with Treetop about those hush puppies. We have also tried the sweet potato sticks, which are fried "sticks" of what seems like pureed sweet potato. Not really my thing, but my husband loves them. Very much worth a stop!

It might not be half way, but if you can hold out until the Eastern Shore of VA, or if you just need someplace to stop and get a bite, Tammy & Johnny’s at 27352 Lankford Hwy. (on the right hand side of US 13) in Melfa, VA (757-787-1122) is a sure bet. It’s about 45 minutes south of the MD/VA line and has been rated by Southern Living as one of the best fried chicken joints in the country. It’s been at that location since the early 60s. You’ll know the chicken is fresh based on the hundreds of Perdue chicken houses you’ll see dotting the landscape on Delmarva. They also have some of the best hushpuppies I’ve ever had. You order at the counter and then take your food to the dining room next door. Absolute roadfood at its best. Can’t vouch for anything other than the chicken/fries/hushpuppies/potato salad, but I’m betting anything from their menu would be good.

CBBT. It seems to be more direct.

I actually had a wonderful lunch at the rest stop area on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel…on one of the bridges outside of Virginia Beach…wonderful soft shell crab…great hushpuppies..watched a sub go under the bridge…..I wasn’t there on a weekend…heard it can be a real zoo then…

try doing a search on OBX…there have been numerous discussions

Looking for a place to stop for lunch about half-way between NYC and the Outerbanks. Thanks!
