And a BTW for the Rangers – Elvis Andrus for Matt Kemp would have worked well for both teams, but Daniels choked. Now, where are they going to play Profar?
I’m still trying to figure out what Billy Beane is trying to accomplish with the A’s (not, as a Pirates/ Rangers fan, that I care). He’s dumped the heart of his 2013 – 14 order – Cespedes, Donaldson, and Moss (nearly 90 HR/300 RBI) and gotten little in return – a 2 month pitcher rental, a weak-hitting third baseman, and some minor league trash.
Somehow, I don’t think there’s going to be a sequel to “Moneyball” – either the book or the movie. The way I look at it, there’s one less team for the Resurgent Rangers to worry about in the AL West.
Of course I worry about Jon Daniels’ sanity, too – signing Choo for seven years on the basis of one good OBP year and not keeping the Boom Stick in Texas when ‘just’ 3/45 or 4/48 would have done it. There’s a lot of tread still left on Cruz, especially as a RH DH. Evidently, Seattle thinks so! (And, he’s a helluva lot better in the clubhouse than Rios – a decent player, but Daniels can’t give him away).
Andrew Heaney probably has the best story to tell out of the whole day so far!
Started In Miami, currently in LA (Angels) after being traded TWICE today, First to the Dodgers and then 5 hours later to the Angels. His tweet about his “memorable” stay in LA(D) was great
As my favorite dead broadcaster would say “HOLY COW” Jon Lester returning to the wonder kid, looks like 2015 will be the cubs year (Just like they predicted in Back To The Future 2)
The Reds unloading talent but still OVER on salary, The Dodgers having a fire sale, and there is still 8 1/2 hours to go until the deadline.
In light of the Rays’ being denied even the right to search for a new ballpark site, there have to be several of the too-many-to-mention-low-key Texas billionaires who are now scouting ballpark sites along I-35 between San Antonio and Austin.[;)]
And the MLB network ‘experts’ are talking about them moving to Montreal![lol]
My goodness, are the Padres ‘players’ or what! An instant outfield: Matt Kemp, J. Upton, Wil Myers!
A big upgrade at catcher in Norris!
And a steal: Wil Middlebrooks! Middlebrooks needed desperately to get away from the Boston media, the Boston fans, and the Green Monster. In him, a star will be born in San Diego.[;)]
Most likely, there will be at least two future ‘stars’ among the 10 prospects they ‘paid’ for this haul, but the lowly, irrelevant Padres have been transformed into an instant contender.
I really ‘Pheel’ for the Philly fans.
They have been as Phoolish with their $$$ as the LA Angels.
And even their bench players are freaking old.
News flash: the future is not now; the future is bleak.
Here’s my solution:
1) Ryan Howard could make a really good DH for Baltimore. Get a token player and eat half his salary and let him go. I think his Achilles injury is still ‘inside his head’; a change of scenery and DH-ing might do wonders.
2) Realize that Cliff Lee is not the second coming of Warren Spahn. Eat half his contract and ship him to the Dodgers or Giants. He needs a big ballpark these days.
3) Unload Cole Hamels to Boston for one or two of their surplus phenoms and let them pay the remaining $96,000,000.00 on that contract before he becomes the second coming of Roy Halladay.
4) Keep Marlon Byrd & Chase Utley for ‘continuity’, get John Mayberry and Dominic Brown better conditioning and coaching, and build the farm with your high draft picks to come.[;)]
Even the Philly Phanatics would love these moves.
(I’ll be sending Amaro a bill for my services).
