I was cleaning out my PMs and came across one from 6star (Laird Carter) from back in 2011, when we shared a meal in the Peoria, IL area.  I checked and found he hadn’t posted since 2014, and with a little more research I learned that he unfortunately http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/pjstar/obituary.aspx?n=laird-carter&pid=175314937&fhid=10868 passed away in 2015.  I’m glad I got to meet him in person; he was a nice guy.

We were driving through Sewickley last weekend and I thought about him (he lived across from the Sewickley Country Inn).  I was telling Michael that the last time I saw him was when we all met at Max’s Allegheny Tavern.  I am very sorry that his name is on this list.

Aww, I’m sorry to hear that that about GeoNit. (And others too, but I’d met him and not the others.)

I am sad. I enjoyed the company of Jim and Trudy many times on their jaunts to Ashlandia.

Jim, a.k.a., mr chips certainly had a passion for Roadfood among other things.  He was a wonderful host everytime we would come through the Portland area.  He will be missed.

A very interesting Obituary and insight into a man’s life. Leaves me feeling like I know him.

Leaves me wishing I’d met up with him a few times in real life and shared some afternoons in conversation.

Just did a little research and unfortunately, there is another name to add.  http://sewickley.patch.com/articles/george-gilchrist-french GeoNit, who came to several Roadfood get togethers here in the Pittsburgh area, passed away last year.  He was a real gentleman who loved Penn State and eating well!

I believe Tippy Lee is another poster who has since passed on

    Kozel,
I thought this was a thread about people who have passed on, not about people who choose to no longer post

Very nice CK.  A few of those I wasn’t even aware that they had passed away.  Thanks for starting this thread and hopefully the list will remain short.

This is a thread that I wish didn’t exist at all.

Unfortunately I do have some very sad news.

I found out via facebook that Roadfooder waltpiii passed away shortly after the new year. It was announced by his daughter. For those of you who know Walt, he attended a few of our New England meet ups occasionally with his wife, Denise. Although he lived in the Hartford area , he grew up in the Albany-Troy NY area and was a hot dog aficionado and well versed not only with the Troy area hot dog scene, but the Connecticut hot dog scene as well. Walt always had a good story to tell, was very personable and we will miss him.

Thanks so much to WJ for calling and letting me know of Dennis Brown’s passing.  Like he and CarolinaBob mentioned, Dennis was one of the good guys.  He was very frank about his health, yet remained in high spirits and loved to talk Carolina bbq.  He will be missed!

I found this photo of the 4 of us on one of our old trip reports…
