Excellent | Worth a Detour
Deerfield’s Bakery
Review by: Roadfood Team
The buttercream frosting on the cakes and cupcakes at Deerfield’s Bakery is the best anywhere in the Chicago region, and for that reason alone is worth the trek. It is neither too fatty in taste nor overwhelmingly sugary. I am not sure what the secret ingredient is but it’ll have you coming back.
What to eat at Deerfield’s Bakery
At Easter time, there is a plethora of bunny and lamb cakes, and with all special order cakes, you can choose from a variety of fillings. I am partial to the fudge filling. The decorations on the cakes are excellent, and you can custom order cakes that are three dimensional (trains, dump trucks, etc.) if you want. Their butter cookies and iced butter cookies are also superb, as are the bagels and other baked goods.
There is an incredible variety at this bakery. It can be overwhelming (in a good way). The place is very clean, and there are many people on staff to help you.
