Fruit

Melons, berries, apples, grapes, and bananas all are members of the fruit family. So are chile peppers, eggplants, olives, and cucumbers, although these never play the sweet role in pie, cake, ice cream, yogurt, or fruit salad. Regional fruits and fruit dishes worth seeking out include banana pudding in the South, pico de gallo in Tucson (that’s a salad of watermelon, coconut, pineapple, mango, and jicama), huckleberry pie and candy in western Montana, persimmons in the southern Midwest, and cherries in northern Michigan.
