Litton’s

What to eat at Litton’s
With a catalogue of hamburgers that range from minimalist beef patties to a “Thunder Road” burger (named for the movie about moonshining in these parts) topped with pimento cheese, onions, and a hot pickled jalapeno pepper, Litton’s is burger-lovers’ heaven. For each one, freshly-ground meat is cooked to order, then sandwiched in a made-here bun, preferably with at least lettuce, tomato and onion, and, at most, bacon, pickles, or chili. Hamburgers – and other sandwiches – are available with onion rings, French fries or any number of classic southern sides.
What to order for dessert
At least as famous as the hamburgers are Litton’s desserts: coconut cream pie, chocolate chess pie (Tuesday only), old-fashioned red velvet cake, banana pudding, and cream cheese-frosted Italian cream cake, a buttery concoction with old-fashioned simplicity that goes perfectly with a cup of after-meal coffee.
All in all, Litton’s is a great place to enjoy a real American burger and a piece of cake in a comfortable and clean environment. It is just a couple of miles off I-75 and 640 on the north side of the city.

We stopped at Litton’s after hearing that they’ve been voted the best burgers in K-town for like the last 100 years. So of course we both ordered the regular Litton Burger. It was 2pm (after the lunch rush) and we had to wait five minutes to be seated even with at least 10 tables open that we could see. Once we were seated, the service was good and the food was served fast.
The food: both burgers were very, very dry and pretty much tasteless except for the condiments. They almost tasted as if they’d been sitting around for 10-15 minutes before being served. The onion rings were some of the best we’ve ever had.
Also, everything seemed to be priced about 30% too high. Two regular burgers, one order of onion rings, and just water to drink was a little over $20.00. We may have caught them at a bad time or something but no second time for us.
