Sweet Potatoes

While they are eaten year-around, sweet potatoes are expected at holidays and celebration meals. They can be simply baked and buttered; it also is standard practice to fancify them in a casserole topped with brown sugar and/or melted marshmallows. In recent years, sweet-potato French fries have become a popular alternative to regular French fries. It is not unusual for them to be served with a shaker of cinnamon sugar or a cup of marshmallow sauce for dipping. Because they are a substantial food, sweet potatoes can take the place of meat in vegetarian and vegan dishes.
