Bar

Review by: Michael Stern

Bar really is a bar, complete with dance floor, live entertainment, and late-night crowd more interested in drinking than in eating. People under 21 are not welcome unless accompanied by an adult. Despite all that, we do recommend it for pizza. Founded upon the chewy-crisp, thin crust that is New Haven’s signature, it comes in three basic forms: red, red with mozzarella, and white, which is parmesan and garlic. The list of toppings is huge, including shrimp and fresh littleneck clams as well as broccoli, spinach and all the usual suspects … plus mashed potatoes. That last one is Bar’s signature. The creamy spuds are available on red or white pies. Infused with garlic and grated cheese, they make a beguiling duet with the refined crust and its charred edges. If extra luxury is needed, bacon is a favorite supplement.
