Few places say DEEP South more than Vandy’s Bar-B-Q, a ramshackle shop where chopped pork gets haloed by legendary sauce, presented warm in a squeeze bottle. On the other hand, Sugar Magnolia Bakery & Cafe offers artisan pastries and good coffee as well as hand-crafted pizza and a seven-layer caramel cake. For old-fashioned Sunday supper in a boardinghouse setting, Beaver House is the place to go; and Boiling Shrimp is a source of excellent seafood, including a full-bore Lowcountry boil.
