Turnovers

Turnovers are pastries folded over sweet or savory ingredients and baked to become a self-contained dish. Examples include the Cornish pasty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, empanadas in Latin-American restaurants, Hawaiian ham and cheese turnovers spiced with hot chilies and sweetened with passion fruit butter, the ginger-peach turnover served at Grey Market in Savannah, and the rhubarb and gingered-apple turnover of Frog Hollow Farm in San Francisco’s Ferry Building Marketplace.
