Although it is available with countless brands around the country, from Kroger and Publix to unique versions made by independent confectioners, Moose Tracks is in fact a trademarked name for vanilla ice cream dotted with pieces of peanut butter cup and fudge. Among interesting iterations of the theme are Moose Tracks made with chocolate ice cream, with brownie pieces instead of fudge, with added peppermint, cherries, or streaks of caramel. Moose Tracks first was served in the 1980s in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula at an ice cream parlor just down the road from a miniature golf course called Moose Tracks. That is how it got its name.
