Oink’s Dutch Treat
Review by: Roadfood Team
Come all ye pigs and piglets of the ice cream loving variety. There’s a place in New Buffalo, Michigan with you in mind. Oink’s Dutch Treat, squealing since 1987, is a favorite in southwest Michigan Harbor Country.
What to eat at Oink’s Dutch Treat
The walls are filled with porcine memorabilia, 1144 items to be exact. Amid the clutter is the ice cream menu detailing all 55 flavors. The ice cream from Sherman Dairy in South Haven, Michigan, is truly delicious; enough to make Oink’s a destination. Oink’s Dutch Treat is a full service ice cream shop serving cones, sundaes and other creations. But a sundae may be overkill. The generous single dip portions may likely satisfy your craving. Our favorite flavors – and we have tried many – are moose tracks and Mackinaw Island fudge, chunks of fudge in fudge ripple.
We can’t overlook mentioning the service and servers; in a tourist area like this, it is rare to find such a completely happy, friendly, and attentive staff. For instance, the crowd was six deep at the counter and an indecisive customer was cheerfully encouraged to take his time making a selection while the server waited.
Don’t forget to visit Oink’s chocolate and candy shop next door. You may want to visit there on the way in so the ice cream doesn’t melt while you pick out your fudge order.
