A St. Louis diner dish, the slinger is a clean-the-kitchen concoction that varies from menu to menu. A typical configuration would be a couple of hamburger patties and fried potatoes topped with a fried egg or two, blanketed with chili, and garnished with grated cheese and chopped raw onions. Slingers are eaten for breakfast or lunch or as a pre-dawn prophylactic for an oncoming hangover.
