Casserole

Casseroles can be a side dish – green beans with fried onions; broccoli and cheese; sweet potato topped with marshmallows, etc. As a main course, they feature chicken, ground beef, tuna, lobster, or just vegetables, and they likely will be crowned with melted cheese and/or bread crumbs or crumbled Ritz crackers. Casseroles also are configured as breakfast, such as chile relleno casserole at the Southwest Diner in Boulder City, Nevada; French toast casserole topped with maple syrup at the Well-Bred Bakery & Cafe in Asheville, North Carolina; and hash-brown casserole laced with bacon and topped with eggs.
