Texas Honey Ham Company
Review by: Sara Griffith Dawson
Breakfast can make or break the start of your day. No one knows this better than Texas Honey Ham Company. The name may mislead outsiders, but locals know what Texas Honey Ham is all about. Open since 2004, it has been serving fantastic breakfast and lunch to the community as well as catering to the local school district and families in the neighborhood. Throughout the school year, you’ll find long breakfast and lunch lines comprised of high school students and young families looking to get their fix. You get the sense that everyone knows someone here, and if you’re new, there will certainly be someone to give you a friendly opinion of the best menu options.
“BEC, SEC, PEC…” What does it all mean??!! The foundation of this establishment is a breakfast taco menu: bacon egg and cheese (BEC), sausage egg and cheese (SEC), potato egg and cheese (PEC).
Farm-fresh eggs are noticeably more flavorful, raising these breakfast tacos above the standard of a fast-food taco that uses an egg mix. Bacon and sausage are rich and smokey, and the potato remains soft but not soggy.
To kick it up a notch, order tacos “ranchero” style. Texas Honey Ham Company ranchero sauce is similar to a mild salsa, but hot enough to create unique flavors. For a more complex taco, there is a menu of add-ons to mix and match.
Texas Honey Ham also offers more traditional breakfast plates, rolls, and combos. Lunch options include salads and hot-grilled sandwiches. All breakfast and lunch menu items are under $10 (except for the BIG salad).
Simple, fresh ingredients make this eatery a wonderful respite from typical chain-restaurant combo favorites. Show up hungry, don’t fear their taco menu, and let Texas Honey Ham Company start your day off right.
