Meat Pie

Culinary adventurers around the U.S. will discover many ethnic versions of meat pie: from the British Isles, the Caribbean, Latin America (think empanadas) Canada, and Africa. One unique to this country (but with roots in France) is the Natchitoches meat pie, a Louisiana signature dish that once was sold by pie vendors on the street corners of the Red River town of Natchitoches. Its filling is a savory combination of ground beef and pork sausage along with a hail of Cajun seasoning.
