Restaurants in Marshall, VA

The Red Truck Rural Bakery opened about 10 years ago in a former gas station over in Warrenton. It’s still there, but as it became more successful and well-known, especially for its ability to mail-order pies, cakes, and pastries, it opened up in Marshall. The old gas-station location still is open; the new one is much bigger but no less quaint; and the goodness of everything it makes turns the town of Marshall, just off I-66, into a prime Roadfood destination. The most famous products are for taking home: whole pies and cakes and four-star granola in particular; but the dine-here opportunities include wonderful sandwiches on freshly-baked bread, soups, and muffins and cookies to go with coffee. Not nearly as famous, but a locals’ favorite for blue-plate fare is the Marshall Diner. It’s a three-meal-a-day town cafe with a true-diner menu that ranges from creamed chipped beef on toast in the morning to meat loaf with mashed potatoes for supper. Curiously, all bacon, ham, and sausage breakfast meats are made of beef or turkey, not pork.
