Restaurants in Alberta

Alberta is famous for its beef, which is magnificent at the gracious River Cafe on Prince’s Island Park in the heart of Calgary. Here you can start a meal with bison tartare then move on to top grass beef tenderloin (or, if you wish, wood-grilled bison) and top things off with garden mint cheesecake and fennel sorbet. At the other end of the status meter is Rocky’s Burger Bus, a vintage transit bus run aground outside the Farmers Market, serving hunky 10-ounce burgers and French fries cut to order. Another favorite ultra-casual burger source is Peter’s Drive-In, an old-fashioned eatery that tops its beef patties with sweet barbecue sauce. But it isn’t all beef in these parts. Calgary’s Chicken on the Way has been serving scrumptious fried chicken for decades, packed in bright yellow boxes and ready to carry away, since 1958.
