I finally got decent broadband, 3Mbps down and 768kbps up. I spent a couple hours watching and listening to great music on youtube, and here are some great ones. Music lovers with a half hour to kill, these are all worth it.
I promise you, if you watch the ones I post, I’ll watch and comment on the ones you post.
Sue Foley: "So Far", from the North Atlantic Blues Festival July ’07. Sue Foley writes that she accepts that her core audience is 50 year old men. Maybe that’s because we have great taste in music, and like watching strong women who can play great blues guitar?
A Young Lou Ann Barton: "Rocket in my Pocket’ with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. The old Wanda Jackson classic that no one ever heard of. When is this; Late ’80s? At least 20 years ago.
Speaking of Wanda Jackson, "Hard Headed Woman", from 1958. She kicked ass. Heck, she deserves a couple; here’s "Rock Your Baby" from the same show. The blond woman with the fiddle looks totally lost as Wanda sings about screwing all night.
OK, here’s Lou Ann Barton again, from last summer: Shake a Hand". Man, hear the whiskey in that voice. This is my favorite one of them all. There is some hard living in there. That’s Derek O’Brien on lead guitar, the same guy as in the other video, and Denny Freeman is on rhythm; he’s a top notch lead player in his own right.
Best YouTube video that I’ve seen, when music is concerned, is CSNY performing Neil Young’s "Down by the River" in front of a live TV audience in late 1969. Stills and Young get into an incredible guitar jam together during the solo, each taking turns showing off their immense musical talents. The entire band looks young and (except for Crosby) lean – a nice contrast to the way they look today! Here is the link:
The best non-musical thing I’ve seen on YouTube is this (phony) preview for Stanley Kubrick’s horror masterpiece, The Shining. The preview makes it look like prime family fare. It’s so well done you’d think it was a real preview if you didn’t know the movie:
Your entry reminded me of this song, also a duet with Pavorotti:
All excellent, Bill!
I enjoyed being able to watch pirated videos (some had half arse + quality in video and audio) of the Zepplin concert last week. Was nice to at least get a taste of the band today… Search it, and you shall find it! lol. Amazing how much stuff them servers hold there…
Kate & dave:
December will be magic again!
Kate on the deleted SNL:
My fantasy girlfriend for the last 40 years:
One more for all the boys:
i95, that was great. Thanks. Bill, that is going to take some time, and Christmas is coming. I’ve seen The Kinks 3 times, but not since the ’80s.
195, Bill, you both know that this was really only a sly way for me to get leads, don’t you…
Yeah, I saw that. It is great to have, but would have bee better as a complete stand alone, and the interview with Antone separate. but I understand that it is from the documentary about Antone’s. He did a great thing.
Youtube is a ancient progrocker’s (me) dream![:o)][:o)][:o)][:o)][:o)][:p][:p][:p][8D][8D][8D]
Sensational Alex Harvey Band:
and through all 13 parts!
I was fortunate to have seen Susan Tedschi, SRV (as a sideman member of The Cobras) and Sue Foley when they were just getting started. Thanks for the Lou Ann Barton clip; did you hear this Foley one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVlfi1nwtZY&feature=related
