1099’s are a pain, but if you use Quickbooks it does it for you. You just have to buy the forms.
no, you don’t have to buy the forms (altho, qb sure makes it seem like you need to and from them, to boot).
you can call the irs 800 number and order them – for free, even the postage is paid. or you can go to your local irs office and pick up the forms there – no charge at all.
Mike, you call your accountant way to much, don’t sweat the small stuff. Now, get out there and sell some food…………..BillyB
Right now, not sweating this and had a really good day yesterday. But, I know a few people that are, my food supplier went through the roof at this one. If they keep their doors open, I think I can pretty much plan on a nice cost increase on my end.
And then the new finance reg bill that was just signed, there are another 2300 pages of unread confiscatory policy laced through that one, including the confiscation of 401k retirement plans. They want to stick all of that money into social security for our own good.
Mike
You make me laugh Billy.
Well not really you, the people that you are trying to explain business to, they will never get it.
I pay 0 taxes, I haven’t paid taxes since 1989 my first year in business. They will never figure that out.
You do realize that this new law is exactly for people like you. Maybe you could apply for a position in the U.S. Treasury dept. I hear that evading taxes is a resume booster there.

This just makes a even playing field. The produce guy that was undercutting the legitimate business owner, will now have to pay taxes. I wonder if his prices, that would have eventually put the legitimate produce business out of business, will raise once he goes legit. God Bless the USA………………..Like someone said, Quickbooks will do this with a push of a button after you buy the forms. Its a once a year deal, quit your bitching, follow the rules or move to a Country that lets you do as your please, that is, as long as you follow the rules….Hahahahahhahahhahahha……….This is the best country in the world, spend more time loving it, less time bitching about it……..Bill
Unfortunetly the 1099 is changing so everyone who uses Quickbooks will have to buy an upgrade or new version.
Another hit againsts free enterprise.[V]

Along with receiving a 1099 comes Schedule C and Self Employment tax.
Right.

I don’t think you have to send a 1099 to your grocery store, unless you buy things from them related to your work. By the way, you do not have to be in business to fall prey to this newest bid of insidiousness. If you have a job, but you earn extra money doing something else, then you fall under the requirements of this Democratic attack.
I think that we should all be concerned about this and things like this because if we just sit back and not worry about it, they will keep doing things like this.
Can you imagine the extra paperwork that your food suppliers will have to deal with? It’ll ultimately end up in higher food costs which will end up as higher costs for the consumer. Everyone loses except the accountants and goverment beaurocrats. How’s that hope and change workin’ for ya?
I think this gets repealed when the IRS has to examine the unfathomable amount of additional data they’ve added.
Anyway, quick question: So, if I am an independent contractor, do I send a 1099 to my grocery store? or only to businesses where I spent more than $600 for use of material, etc that directly impacted my independent contract work? Or do I only do this if I’m an incorporated business?
Do non-profits fill this out if they paid for services to another non-profit organization? (Non-profits, of course, do fill out 1099s to independent contractors).
what a freaking nightmare! It sort of makes a company want to limit their # of vendors if the savings is negated by tax-time troubles.
there is no legal way to avoid taxes in this country.
I’m sure if you “get creative” you can dodge taxes. Like maybe forming a non-profit entity and “donating” 1 cent on the dollar to your “cause” and pocketing the rest. Or maybe go to the Wesley Snipes school of accounting.
