La Conguita, which is also on Grove (351 Grove St) is very tasty and Cuban, and could be the place tacchino is referring to. Don’t know why I assumed it was the Hard Grove. . . . .

If you are referring to the Hard Grove Cafe on Grove and Christopher Columbus, well sorry to say it isn’t very good or even very bad, these days, just very mediocre. But there are many far better cuban coffeeshop/restuarants in Hudson County, like the wonderful La Isla in Hoboken.

Hey, don’t forget a trip over to Newark (2 or 3 quick stops on the PATH train) for GREAT Portuguese and Spanish food, esp. seafood, on Ferry St, one block from train.

For hot dogs, try Boulevard Drinks at Journal Square. One of the best dogs in Jersey. A small natural casing all beef Sabret prepared perfectly on a griddle. As good as or better than Papaya King.

I agree with Voyageur. I didn’t stay at the doubletree, but I did see good reviews for it. the views from the Hyatt are spectacular and the convenience of the path station make it an excellent place to stay. I just wouldn’t recommend the restaurant in the Hyatt

The Hyatt is at Exchange Place at the end of Montgomery Street, right on the Hudson, next to the PATH station there.

There’s also a DoubleTree north from there, with a view of the Hudson, that I’ve stayed at. With the convenience of PATH and NY Waterway, these offer much better values for the quality of room than you get in Manhattan.

I just wanted to say I ate at the brownstone diner and had the

    Original Pancake Wrap / 7.95
One super-sized pancake stuffed with scrambled eggs, bacon and american chz

A pancake the size of the plate wrapped around the eggs, bacon, and cheese was delicious and gluttonous. I would recommend it to anyone. There was a long line, but it moved fast. I will have to try lunch or dinner next time I’m in the neighborhood.

Jersey City has quite a good selection of restaurants. Will you have a car? What price range?
The best restaurant in town is OX, but there are choices from Vietnamese to Indian, to inexpensive byob French bistro to good Szechuan. Italian?

I am going to be on foot. I was trying to find someplace to take a date on for the night. I had read about the ox restaurant. I am glad to hear it is actually good. Thanks

Yes, I meant The Brownstone! Thanks for catching that. The Townhouse is a diner on 2nd Ave in Manhattan that I walk by every single day (but have never eaten in).

F-bomatty, Here are a couple of online guides. If something interests you, inquire here and I’ll try to let you know what I think. I haven’t been to all the places in town, of course. . . . .

The Townhouse Diner has delicious (and enormous) pancakes and other breakfasts. They also serve everything else you would find in a typical NY/NJ Greek diner.
