I want to say that Maid Rite closes around 8pm.  Last time we went, we arrived close to then, and just got in under the wire.  Not sure when it opens, but it does plenty of lunch business.

    Thanks for the help.

We arrived kinda late on Sunday night and as such, we ended up grabbing Skyline to go in Dayton.

Does anyone know what kinda hours the Maid Rite has?? I’m very interested.

Coldwater looks really nice and I’d like to check it out some time.

On Monday morning I could smell the smoke from Hickory River. It was nice.

For ‘unique to the area’, I’d go with the Maid Rite in Greenville.  It looks like a chunk of the ’50’s that fell out of the sky… and that’s because it really hasn’t changed any since then. Loads of character… even charmed my sneering British ‘food snob’ GF.  It features their own spin on loose meat (ground beef, supposedly cooked with beer & mustard, topped with onions & pickles) sandwiches.

Plus it has a gum wall:  (I can’t post links here yet, but google maid rite greenville, and there’s a youtube video).

Have any particular types of food you’re looking for?  Coldwater’s tops for me in Tipp City, but there are many more options in Troy (and it’s just a 10 minute max drive away).

Our first choice is a place that offers something unique to that area (ie Cinci Chili) . Second would be a local landmark kinda place. Third, what well always ask people, “Where to you take out of towner??”

Keep in mind that where we live we have every type of ethnic food available except North American believe it or not.
We also visit the south several times a year so BBQ is covered as well.

I think we’re gonna stop at “The Spot” in Sidney for lunch on Monday.

It’s definitely a diner-style joint, and it’ll provide calories, but I’m not sure you’ll get much enjoyment to go with it.  Just my take.

I’m hesitant to butt in here because I’ve never eaten in Tipp City!  But folks seem to talk about Tipp O’The Town being the place to go there.  And I think it’s right off the freeway I-75  I believe it’s a diner style restaurant.

I’ve found Coldwater and I’m coming from Dixie so BBQ is definitely out.

We’ll have been on the road for about 10 hours. I’m not gonna be that interested in much of a drive once we get there.

Tipp City has at least a couple of decent places I can vouch for:  Coldwater Cafe, and Hickory River Smokehouse (BBQ). The pulled pork @ Hickory River is excellent.

I think I’m too new here to post links, but they both come up easily on Google.

Troy, OH is close by.  La Piazza (Italian) is pretty good there.  If you can make it to Dayton (half hour drive), then options open up quite a bit.  My top picks there are Rue Dumaine (French Bistro), and The Pine Club (old school steakhouse).

The Maid-Rite is one of my favorite places in the whole world.  it’s actually been there sinced the late 1920’s.  My parents stopped there on their wedding night and I just grew up with it as a kid.  The gum wall’s been cleaned a few times, but the food has basically been the same and it is a treasure.
