No arguments here.
Who are you, and how did you get access to Buddy’s account?
With next year’s MLB schedule out, this changes my plans a bit.
Reds game on the 28th with John and Cathy [:)].
I am going to take Brad’s advice and I will visit the Triple X Diner on my way down to Cincinnati.
Danny
What sucks is both Philly and Pittsburgh are on the road the week I would depart for Cleveland.
I haven’t been to a Phillies game since 05 and I haven’t been to a Pirates game since 04. I can’t believe it’s been that long! Oh well, I guess I’ll have to wait for the minor league schedules to come out. Depending on what happens – Reading, Harrisburg, Altoona, Erie, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Troy- surely one of these teams should be in town.
The Burger shown in that photo is indeed https://www.facebook.com/gahannagrill/photos/a.501817601554/10152415730701555/?type=3&theater a fine looking sandwich. However, unless there is an excessive glop of cole slaw hiding somewhere among all those other toppings, that is not a https://s3-media2.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/JDyJoYktQOu_UkWRXySZJQ/o.jpg Beanie Burger!
I do not contest the high quality of Gahanna Grill’s Burgers in general, and in fact sing their praises. But the Beanie Burger in particular is an atrocity. An insult to the cow who gave its life to create the 1/2 pound patty. They take an otherwise fine hunk of quality ground beef, beautifully prepared, and sully it with enough cole slaw to drown a dozen Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwiches.
And then serve additional cole slaw on the side.
ChiBears15, I highly endorse a visit to Gahanna Grill, and the consumption of virtually ANY OTHER Burger on the menu. But if you’re on the fence as the waitress stands there, ready to take your order, just think back to your experience with the St. Paul Sandwich in St. Louis…
…and make the right choice.
Wish I could join you there. Who knows, maybe.
Buddy
I’d like to throw in Philadelphia
That’s a good one CNW. I’m hoping to promote Philly when I can take a more active planning roll.
Top 5 choices for 2020!!!
#1 – Pit[style=”background-color: #ffffff;”]ts[/style]ton!
Then, my top two places that I’ve never been to.
Montreal – Due mainly to CTD’s recent postings on the Facebook.
St Louis – Thinking I may be able to get great Q and Italian on the same tour!
And my top two spots for a return visit.
NOLA
Charleston
That’s my list and I’m sticking to it……unless somebody mentions a return to KC. I’d go back there in a heartbeat!
Get tickets for the Thursday night (4/30) game so we can have dinner at Sokolowski’s on Friday night.
But don’t wait, because those 4/30 tickets will sell out FAST!

I’ve got a few minutes before work, so let’s address some of these questions.
Is the Cleveland marathon really two days?
Yup. In fact two separate events each day; a 5/10K on Saturday the 16th, and a half and full marathon on Sunday the 17th.
The only trouble that I remember with the Nashville marathon was crossing the street to go to a downtown location.
Ask Buddy and Co. about his Nashville road race experience.
I think different factions had different experiences based on the location of their hotel. Folks staying south of Nashville had an easier time circumventing the marathon course than those of us with a starting point in the east.
What about later in May? Won t that even be put on the list as a possibility for people to vote on?
I agree. Memorial Day might be tough, depending on whether Smoke and Pie will be converging in the north next year, but there’s no reason we can’t include that weekend for a vote, even if it’s just to give folks the opportunity to say, “no”. Also, it’s probably worth adding the weekend of May 28-31.
We might even consider April 16-19.
Keep in mind that Cleveland is on the east side of a Great Lake, and lake effect snow is a regular occurrence late into April. Later is probably better if we want favorable weather.
Actually, it’s on the south side of Lake Erie, a fact that constantly confounded my sense of direction there after growing up in Chicago where the lake is always to the east. Be that as it may, yes the winters are long and cold in Cleveland and occasionally spill into April. But you know where it’s even colder, even longer? Minneapolis/St. Paul where we just experienced a fabulous weekend at the end of April.
With the chance of lake effect snow through the end of April I would much prefer to go in May.
Of course there’s a possibility of snow in early spring, but https://www.currentresults.com/Weather/Ohio/Places/cleveland-snowfall-totals-snow-accumulation-averages.php the statistics show it is rare in occurrence, and minimal in accumulation. So let’s not panic on this one folks. The Yeti haven’t descended the Himalayas to snatch us up for lunch.
…without Gregg and Buddy organizing, the more time us rookies have to nail down the variables, the better.
As stated before, you won’t be tackling this alone. I’ll still be there to lend a hand, and ChiBears15 seems like an eager participant. I will personally vouch for his keen Roadfooding abilities; like a pig sniffing out truffles.
On a personal note, the MLB schedule comes out toward the end of August and if possible I’d like to see when the Indians play before deciding so we can take in a game at whatever they’re calling Jacobs Field this week.
Agree 100%! As I’ve described in the past, nothing beats the view from in front of Sokolowski’s University Inn on a warm Friday night after an Indians home game when the fireworks show over Progressive Field lights up the sky.
Thank you voters.
Pie Diva thinks Cleveland will be fun. She’s excited about the R&R HoF, Barberton Chicken, and all the Eastern European food. I’m hoping to achieve my lifelong goal of breakfast at Waffle House with Michael Hoffman. Maybe a Tim Horton’s primer from the Nairn’s, too.

Bonk, I PMd you ours yesterday. But just in case…& & …Cleveland, Savannah, New Orleans. Thanks!
If Cleveland ends up winning, I will definitely be hitting up the Gahanna Grill on my way there! You and Michael are invited to join me.
Danny
Have you been to the Gahana Grill? It adds 1 1/2 hours to the trip to Cleveland, but you get to stop at Skyline in Indianapolis on the way!
Wherever we wind up going I hope we can figure out the date fairly quickly. I need to try to get the week off and the later I apply the less likely I’ll get it.
David
No, I have not. But Michael Hoffman and George Motz (Hamburger America) speak highly of it; so I want to try the burger.
And there is no set route for Cleveland. I can follow you to Detroit. Or I can visit The Bonks in Cincy. Or I can stay home that week and just go to Hoosier Mama everyday. Lets see where Roadfood takes me…

But it will be 2020, not 1920. I was hoping for some Somalian and Hmong food or better yet a stuffed cheeseburger (No one knows where they were even invented anyways) not nursing home food
Mrs. Bonk had an idea for final voting that I like.
Pick a primary city and a backup. Two points for your first choice, one for the second.
I still don’t like the vote-skewing potential of a fully public vote, so if you want to vote on this thread, fine, if you want to PM me, even better.
Looking at the calendar, why don’t we wrap this up on July 31.
Hi John,
Thanks for taking this on. I’m not worried about public voting, and since I really don’t like the Roadfood PM system of limited messages, my primary vote is for Charleston and my backup vote is for St. Louis. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get the week off, wherever we wind up going.
David
PM on it s way. For those who may need to book vacation ASAP, I would like to suggest a deadline of next Saturday, July 27. One full week of voting. Then get the date poll going right away. Just a suggestion of course. I appreciate you taking this on Bonk.
Nagle
Sounds good to me.
