Great! I missed it on Friday. On Tuesday I have a shot at catching it.
The CBS Early Show appearance has been rescheduled for Tuesday.
Thanks for the tip.
I don’t know how many of you have followed this woman for the last year, but she has become one of my heros. There is alot of narcissistic drivel in many of the blogs on the net, but this project turned into one great piece of literature. While her rants may put some off (not to mention her "colorful" language, which is much more akin to a sailor from San Pedro than to a nice girl from Dallas), there is some great cooking commentary in her writing, along with some incredibly insightful social commentary about (among other things) food, New York, husbands and marital relationships in general, the press, wine, so called "gourmet grocery stores", eating innards, inlaw relations, subways, crummy "government-make work" jobs, and butter. Lots and lots of talk about butter. If you haven’t ever read any of it, I highly reccomend it. The sight is a bit difficult to manage, but you can start from the beginning if you fool around with it. Just type JULIE JULIA into google and it will be the first thing that will come up.
I am pretty sure that I never would have seen it except that it has been mentioned in this forum a couple of times in the past (thanks Elise T ?) and sadly, much like the last "Calvin" cartoon, I was a little sad when she finished up the book.
Julie is going to be on the CBS Early Show tomorrow morning, Fri. 8/29, according to today’s blog entry.
I got out my copy of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" last night and it was really interesting to see the recipes she was talking about! From now on I’ll read that BLOG with the book in my lap. I always had it around for reference or something, but now I have marked some recipes to try…the leek quiche and chicken stuffing (cream cheese in a stuffing…wow!). I’m not sure I would have tackled traditional French cooking before Julie gave me the nerve.
This blog is fantastic, EliseT! I can see where a lot of my online time is going to go for a while. I kept giggling and getting strange looks. This would make a great book!
You can also go to http://www.salon.com and select SALON BLOGS from the menu on the left. or go directly to http://www.salon/blogs Then select MOST READ BLOGS also on the left, and the JULIE/Julia project is about the 4th one down. Their site is being tempermental today. When I tested these links, sometimes one works and the other doeasn’t.
Mayhaw…I noticed that some of the calendar links don’t work, too. Just find a day’s listing that has "Home" in the right hand navigation bar. I clicked it and it took me to the most recent entry and I was able to click backwards to January from there. Hope that helps!
Is it just me, or does this thing end in December. This woman is my new hero. Surely she didn’t quit in mid stream. AAAAAGGGGHHHHHH[:0]
I know, I just moved and I had to eat takeout food for weeks until my kitchen was in working order. I can’t believe she’s cooking like that a few days into her new place! I haven’t gotten very far into it, but my friend told me when she gets to SWEETBREADS it’s hilarious.
Holy crap! [:0]
I don’t know what else to say! I don’t think I could do what she’s doing if I took a sabbatical! I am awed!
This thing is great. Thanks for pointing it out.
