Mike, So glad you posted your experience at The Homeplace. I’d forgotten about them and I’m in that area every July.
I wrote a Botetourt County resident about them last week and she gave them high marks too. She’s been there several times in recent years. My friend, Italian and from Chicago, isn’t big on southern style cooking, so I considered her positive rating high praise indeed.
Their address for anyone interested:
The Homeplace Restaurant
4968 Catawba Valley Drive
Catawba, VA 24070
(540) 384-7252
The Homeplace Restaurant is open 4 to 8 pm, Thursday through Sunday. Meals are family style and no alcohol is served.
I’m planning for lunch or supper there the 3rd Saturday of next July.
Again, thanks for reminding Roadfood World about The Homeplace.
I stopped here Sunday the 19th after hearing from Redtressed about it. It is about 10 miles off of I-81 and real easy to get to.
They are open for dinner only Th, Fr & Sat 4 to ? and Sunday from 11 to ? Get there early! I got there at 1115 and was seated right away. By 1130 it was a 30 minute wait.
The menu is fixed and you have 3 choices, fried chicken & country ham or fried chicken and roast beef or all 3 meats. it is 11 dollars for 2 meats and 12 for all 3. They had pitchers of lemonade and iced-tea waiting for you at the table.
The meal includes several sides, Sunday they had corn, green beans, pinto beans, cole slaw, biscuits, potatoes and gravy and apple butter. Actually I think they have the same sides all the time. Dessert was peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream.
Everything was really good except the corn and the cobbler. The corn was starchy tasting and I just didn’t care for the cobbler, a rare thing for me.[:)]
