I love Tater Tots as does my kids and love them deep fried or baked with a little salt and a lot of ketchup. As far as being unhealthy I think if they are baked they can’t be as bad for you as deep frying them would be.[:)][:p]

Bushie, you are bad! Never put together Ron White and his kid Tater Tot. He is a favorite of mine.
    You are an inspiration!

This is a proud moment in my life. When I kicked off the TATER TOT discussion I never dreamed of the passion the subject would create. I love TATER TOTS, I don’t give a flip about fat, nutritional value, etc. I love TATER TOTS!!!

going to college in Kalamazoo MI, there was a taco place called Taco John’s that had an item they called Potato Ole’s. They were the cripsy round version of tater tots, sprinkled with taco seasoning when they came out of the fryer instead of salt. Oh, my, were they good eats.

Oh, and in current times, We get them at Sonic instead of fries. And, I make them in my fryer at home. We don’t care for them much baked, but from the fryer, yum.

Mmmmm, tater tots. Here is my definition of a connundrum: Pulling into a drive-in and discovering that I must choose between tater tots and curly-q fries. Ohmigawd, what to do? What to do?

I’ve got it! Give me a large order of each, please. And fry them fresh. [:p]

Love of Tater Tots seems to me (not always, but predominately) to be gender specific… something akin to loving the Three Stooges and jokes of the "pull my finger" variety.
My husband likes all of the above.

Ooooh, I love tater tots, too. I swear, I think we all share the same brain because the other I was going to comment how much I love these "tater gems" store brand that I bought at my local supermarket. they’re more like fat little coins than tots but they are so delicious. Crispy for me!
I used to work at a family owned burger place, Dairy Kreme, and everyone always went for our tater tots with cheese…basically a slice of American melted on top. oh, but are they ever fattening![:(]

Ore-Ida’s "Crispy Crowns" and other coin-style potatoes aren’t bad either but I think tots have a better balance of crunchy outside to processed potato inside.

FWIW I rarely fry mine. 99.9% of the time they come out of the oven.

Agree completely that Tots give a better crunchy/soft mix. Too often I overcook the coins and they end up like a cross between a checker and a potato chip. Not that I don’t still eat them. [:)]

I’ve always thought that tots are one of those comfort foods you either grew up with, or not. My Wife grew up with them and sometimes craves them. I didn’t and I can take or leave them.

On top of that, I’ve recently found that the grease in all OreIda frozen products no longer agrees with me, so I’ve gotta really be wanting to do something nice to make tots. [xx(]

One of my favorite drive-ins, Swenson’s near Akron, has really good tater tots, only they call them Potato Puffs instead. I get them almost everytime I am there.
