Many times in the dog days of summer I don’t mind heating up the kitchen in the evening by making a simple soup for a light evening meal. Leftovers, well chilled, sometimes make good breakfasts, which also means not heating up the kitchen at the beginning of the day.

In the past 2 months I’ve had gazpacho several times, made the previous afternoon (and no cooking), a Musgovian vegetable soup, which was so good chilled that I made a minestrone a few days later.

Sorry NYNM, all those involve tomatoes and celery [:I]. They’re all like chunky home-made versions of V-8. I may just have to make some gazpacho this afternoon.

Many Asian cultures enjoy soup for breakfast. Soup is a good way to get a protein hit in the morning, which your body will enjoy. Try miso soup, wicked easy to make, good tasting and good for you.

NYNM, you’re in Santa Fe…. go to the best…. Tia Sophia for posole for breakfast. All their food is pretty good and the place is usually packed with locals from early am on.

My 14 year old daughter has chicken noodle soup at least three mornings a week! To each her own, I guess!

It is a korean tradition to serve a soup on new years day (duk guk). Duk means rice cake/dumplings and guk means soup. My mom usually also added other dumplings and topics. Really an excellent breakfast. I had it bowl for breakfast two week ago. Great comfort food.

The only Mexican style soup with tripe is Menudo. I prefer the red Menudo (with chili sauce cooked in) as opposed to the white Menudo (no chili you add your own). I prefer to make my own as I like the more firmer honeycomb tripe over the regular tripe. The other breakfast style soup is Posole. (Hominy with meat or chicken in a white or red broth).

Otherwise there is always the Vietnamese Pho, Chinese congee or Japanese Miso soup.

For the morning of New Years Day I’ve made a basic chicken noodle soup with Fideos or with rice. I have good recipes but any will do, I like them salty in the morning.

Don’t ask me wny, I just felt like having soup for breakfast today, then I couldn’t quite think of any recipes, vegetables like celery and tomatoes just didn’t sit right in my "stomach’s eye".
