Nostalgia. When I was a kid, 70 years ago, there was a
penny candy bar,Squirrel Nut Chew. As you chewed it the
saliva built up into a beautiful brown spit, then i could
imitate the hired man on the farm with his cud of tobacco
and spit with the best of them…
I totally agree. It’s like classic video gamnes too. Kids nowadays think the original Pacman (insert any classic game in here – Galaga, Frogger, Punch-Out!, etc) is lame, but for those of us that grew up with them, they will always be fun because of the nostalgia. That’s why I collect classic coin-op arcade games too – 🙂
So, yes, my review was based on taste alone – no nostalgia factored in 🙂
If you do not remember the era of the penny candy store, you probably will not be a fan of them. Those that do remember the era will swear they are great.
The difference is those of us that grew up with them are not eating a candy bar, we are eating nostalgia and nothing tastes better than that.
I agree – somewhat. I reviewed them here
and it wasn’t nearly as good as I hoped it would be.
I saw Sky Bars in my local Eckerd’s last night so I bought a couple to try out. I didn’t like it, period. It was too sweet filling wise. I liked the chocolate that was used but the sweet fillings didn’t cut it 3 out of 4. Which one did I like….., the carmel one was good.
I know, I didn’t grow up on them so I probably won’t enjoy them like some of my childhood favs. But hey, I did try one.
